Those marketing chaps and chapsses have be hard at work in Mexico. You may recall I have written before on the curious yet compelling names that companies bestow on their products[1].
On the flight to Mexico City I was introduced to a new product, the name of which suggested a proprietary foot cream to manage callouses and such. Love Corn is in fact a delicious snack offered at the back of plane by those nice people at BA.
My second south-of-the-border discovery was a Wiese. Another word for a joke or amusing remark? A Wiese(try wee-sey) is an anti-splash urinal screen. Even in this age its use is restricted to men’s’ toilets. The manufacturer’s claim ‘prevent splashing and maintain a fresh scent in your restroom’.
Apologies for those not familiar with men’s’ restrooms. Let’s zip up and move on.
Making my way back through the restaurant to my table there was a lovely cool breeze. I looked up and nestling where the walls met the ceiling was a bank of fans. The brand name, Big Air. Of course.
Some brand names are familiar but still puzzle. Why ‘Uber’? a superior ride I suppose. Last week my daughter reported from Phnom Penh on a ‘ride-hailing’ service called Grab!
She booked a Grab! And a tuk-tuk screamed to a halt outside her hotel before you could say “Hyatt Regency”. The joys of travel.
